About Salem

Located on the north shore, salem has a strong tourist following based on its history. From Halloween events based on the Witchcraft history to the Friendship replica, a remake of a tall fishing ship from the late 1700’s, Salem is consistently on the radar of many. Salem plays an important part in history for the state as it was one of the most significant seaports for Puritan Americans. In addition, Salem was home to the notorious “Salem Witch Trials,” a series of prosecutions of witchcraft being conducted during the late 1600’s. It is known for having a robust downtown area featuring over 60 restaurants, shops and cafes all playing a part in its recognition when winning the “Best Shopping District” award in 2012.
